This month, Lionel Bringuier returns to the Los Angeles Philharmonic to lead the West Coast premiere of Esa-Pekka Salonen’s Karawane, a work he premiered in his first concerts as Chief Conductor and Music Director of the Tonhalle Orchestra Zurich last season. These concerts mark a meaningful reunion for Lionel, who was chosen from nearly 150 applicants to serve under Salonen as Assistant Conductor of the Los Angeles Philharmonic in 2007, becoming at 21 the youngest in the orchestra’s history and the youngest to conduct at Disney Hall. At Lionel’s appointment, Salonen became the TOZ’s first Creative Chair in the 2014-15 season.
Lionel is also joined by the TOZ’s 2014-15 Artist-in-Residence Yuja Wang, who performs Mozart’s Piano Concerto No. 9. The program, heard on November 20, 21, and 22, begins with Debussy’s Prélude à l’après-midi d’un faune.
