‘Made in Paris’ program with the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra

On May 2 & 4, Lionel Bringuier conducts the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra in a French and Russian-themed program, featuring French pianist Lise de la Salle. Bringuier leads the ensemble in Prokofiev’s Symphony No. 4 (Op. 112), a revision of the symphony he had originally completed in 1929-30. Prokofiev revised the work so heavily that it turned into a work so different in scale and impact it could have stood alone as a new symphony.

Lise de la Salle interprets Ravel’s Piano Concerto in G major, a light-hearted work, heavily influenced by jazz after he had toured through the United States in 1928. Concluding the evening is Stravinsky’s The Firebird, his first work for the Ballet Russes. Completed when he was 28 years old, Stravinsky’s work is celebrated as a tour-de-force of orchestration.
