Lionel Bringuier begins his 2019/20 season leading the Tokyo Symphony Orchestra at Suntory Hall and Muza Kawasaki Symphony Hall. Both performances will feature a program of Brahms’ sublime Violin Concerto in D Major, featuring violinist Alina Pogostokina, and Prokofiev’s Symphony No. 4, Op. 112.
The Fourth Symphony is unique in that Prokofiev heavily revised it after its lukewarm premiere. In fact, the composer considered both versions entirely separate works and gave each its own opus number. (46 for the 1929-1930 version, 112 for the 1947 version). The first concert takes place on September 21 at Suntory Hall and following on September 22 at the Muza Kawasaki Symphony Hall.
