This month, Lionel Bringuier will return to New Zealand for a concert with the Auckland Philharmonia. Having performed with the orchestra in 2014 to critical acclaim, Mr. Bringuier is now a 2018 guest artist of the ensemble. On August 30, he will take the podium at the Auckland Town Hall in a concert entitled The Prodigal Son, including cellist Alban Gerhardt.
Part of the New Zealand Herald Premier Series, this concert aims to explore rarely-performed works of the orchestral repertoire with some of the world’s finest soloists and conductors. The program will include Prokofiev’s Symphony No. 4, which expands on musical material from the composer’s ballet The Prodigal Son, as well as Ravel’s Ma mère l’Oye, and Saint-Saëns’ Cello Concerto No. 1.
In his last performance with the ensemble, Bachtrack praised Lionel and the Philharmonia saying, “Bringuier and the Philharmonia emphasized the work’s energetic and dynamic nature, their playing was passionate with an eye for detail – allowing the many melodies, dances, folk tunes and rhythms to shine one by one.”
