Lionel Bringuier leads the Tonhalle Orchestra Zurich in several performances this fall, in Zurich and on a multi-city tour throughout South America. Violinist Lisa Batiashvili joins Lionel and the TOZ on October 5 & 6 in concert, featuring Tchaikovsky’s Violin Concerto in D Major and Mahler’s Symphony No. 1 (“Titan”). Following the dates in Zurich, they travel to South America for an extensive tour, hosted at some of the continent’s premiere venues.
They perform on October 10 at the Teatro Colón in Buenos Aires, with a programme featuring the Tchaikovsky with Ms. Batiashvili as soloist, in addition to Eötvös’ The Gliding of the Eagle in the Skies, and Shostakovich’s Symphony No. 6. The TOZ performs again at the Teatro Colón on October 11, again highlighting the Tchaikovsky as well as Mahler’s Symphony No. 1.
Pianist Nelson Freire joins the tour on October 13, in concert at the Auditorio del Sodre in Montevideo. Mr. Freire plays Schumann’s Piano Concerto in A minor, Op. 54, in a concert that also features Mahler’s “Titan” Symphony. They continue on to Rio de Janeiro’s Teatro Municipal on October 15, and the Sala Sao Paolo on October 16 & 18.
Mr. Bringuier and Mr. Freire have previously collaborated on two acclaimed recordings: a Decca album release of Chopin’s Piano Concerto No. 2, as well as a BelAir Classiques DVD release of their 2010 concert with the BBC Symphony Orchestra at Royal Albert Hall (again featuring Chopin). That performance was also Mr. Bringuier’s debut at the BBC Proms.
