On April 22 and 23, Lionel Bringuier joins the Alma Chamber Orchestra and pianist Nelson Freire in South Africa for two performances. The first takes place in Johannesburg’s Linder Auditorium and hears Freire in Beethoven’s Piano Concerto No. 4 bookended by the composer’s Egmont Overture and Mendelssohn’s Symphony No. 4, “Italian.”
The following day at Durban’s City Hall, Lionel leads a joint orchestra comprised of Alma and members of the KwaZulu-Natal Philharmonic Orchestra. In addition to reprising April 22’s program, the ensemble also performs Wael Binali’s Earth.
These programs reunite Lionel and Freire following their release earlier this year of Chopin’s Piano Concerto No. 2 on Decca Classics. This coincided with their performance of the piece with the Tonhalle Orchestra Zurich, where Lionel is currently enjoying his inaugural season as Chief Conductor and Music Director.
