In his return to the Bamberg Symphony, Lionel Bringuier gives the German premiere of Esa-Pekka Salonen’s Karawane this weekend. Written for orchestra and chorus, Karawane opened Lionel’s tenure as Chief Conductor and Music Director of the Tonhalle Orchestra Zürich last month and was praised by theLos Angeles Times as a “mischievous, madcap 30-minute work for orchestra and chorus based on a gibberish text by a Dada founder, Hugo Ball.… It illuminates a brilliant Salonenesque landscape, which is sci-fi alien while tied to history.”
In Bamberg (October 18) and Erlangen (October 19), Karawane features the Zürcher Sing-Akademie as its chorus. Lionel also conducts Debussy’s Nocturnes for Orchestra and Female Chorus and Brahms’s Symphony No. 1 in C Minor.
