From the beginning of the 2014/15 season, Lionel Bringuier will be leading the Tonhalle Orchestra Zurich as Chief Conductor and Music Director. During the season, Bringuier and the orchestra will be joined by Artist in Residence Yuja Wang for a tour in Germany, France and Austria, and Esa-Pekka Salonen will take the newly created position of Creative Chair.
The season opening concert on September 10th 2014 will be curated by Lionel and the two artists who will shape the 14/15 season significantly: Artist in Residence Yuja Wang and Creative Chair Esa-Pekka Salonen. This first concert is highly representative of Bringuier’s first season in Zurich, combining contemporary and core repertoire.
“It is my desire to make the work of the Tonhalle Orchestra Zurich accessible to as many people as possible”, says Bringuier. At an Open House on 13th September, Lionel and the orchestra will present panel discussions, meetings with the musicians, open rehearsals, backstage tours and an exciting children’s programme, plus a concert by the amateur Liebhaber-Orchester who will perform alongside the professional musicians of the Tonhalle Orchestra under Bringuier.
Lionel Bringuier will tour with the Tonhalle Orchestra Zurich and Yuja Wang in March 2015, performing concerts in Frankfurt, Hamburg, Bremen, Munich, Lyon, Toulouse and Vienna. The tour will also feature the music of Creative Chair, Esa-Pekka Salonen.
“It is important for me to welcome a new, young audience and also not to hold back from including contemporary repertoire in our programmes”. Throughout the 14/15 season Bringuier will conduct a diverse range of repertoire from Prokofiev, Tchaikovsky and Stravinsky to Ravel and Debussy, as well as Brahms, Schumann, Mozart and Beethoven. He will also conduct two tonhalleLATE events.
